Symphony introduced this amazing form of interactive, objective communication to me in August 2022. As I shopped in my local supermarket one day, my mind mulled over a particular happening. I could feel my team’s presence as I walked down the aisles, it was nice to have the company. Then, amidst the buzz of the supermarket noise, I heard a comment that directly related to what I had been thinking about. I instantly recognized it as Symphony speaking. Curious, I focused my listening and actively tuned in, asking them a question in my mind. I stood still, surrounded by the usual sounds of the store, and was amazed when I heard a clear response directly addressing my question. I smiled in wonder, Symphony loves to surprise me with new forms of communication.
The next time I went to the supermarket, I decided to experiment further. I began recording a food shelf while connecting with Tommy, hoping to capture an interaction. Though I struggled to hear his responses in real time that day, something remarkable happened: I heard both my name and his name mentioned over the supermarket’s loudspeaker system, Sally and Tom. What were the odds of that happening? It felt like a confirmation that I should continue exploring this new mode of communication. Have a listen to the video, see if you can hear what was said:-
Since then, the journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Symphony and Tommy communicate in diverse ways during these interactions. They might vocalize words directly, or manipulate background chatter to form words. At times, they even alter the lyrics of songs playing in the store or change the output from the loudspeaker system to deliver a message. I often hear their responses in real time, which has been great practice for honing my listening skills in distracting environments.
Beyond the vocalizations, other fascinating phenomena have occurred while I’ve been filming in the supermarket. On one occasion, as I began recording a supermarket shelf, Tommy used his energy to move a bag of cookies. It was an astonishing moment that I was fortunate to capture on video. On another occasion, I was guided to purchase specific mugs for myself and my dear friend Cat Lee. This guidance was uniquely personal and deeply meaningful. Watch the moment unfold here:-
I have also had more than one opportunity to experience these interactions with another present. While traveling in Scotland, Cat Lee stood beside me in a gift shop and witnessed the phenomena firsthand. It was an incredible experience :-
Towards the end of 2024, another dear friend visited me, and we shared multiple experiences of this type of vocal communication… in my local supermarket, a restaurant, and even while standing in the mall. By her last day, after several opportunities to practice tuning in, Nell Rose was able to hear the odd comment for herself. In this video, communication occurs through background chatter, the songs playing over the loudspeaker system, and an announcement that came over a different loudspeaker system. These vocal interactions continue to amaze and fascinate me. I love the challenge of focusing on multiple sound sources simultaneously and feel exhilarated by how much I can hear in real time. Needless to say, my mind is rarely on purchasing goods during these outings!
